Saona island VIP day trip

‘Welcome to the Caribbean! Welcome to paradise!’ Our guide Raymond was happily greeting us at the first stop on Saona island. Saona island is part of NP del Este and is the largest island of the Dominican Republic.

Not many people live on the island and we took a tour to this island to explore some beaches, see the small village of Manu Juan and drink cocktails in the Caribbean sea.

Piscina Natural

First stop was Piscina natural. A natural sandbank with calm and the most turquoise water I have seen! The water only comes up to the waist. Our bartender Elio was preparing Cuba Libres on a small floating bar. The sun was shining and the amazing water make the rum taste even better!

Canto de la Playa

Second stop was at Canto de la Playa. Not all boat trips are going to this beach as it is a little at distance. We had to sail a bit to get there, but with the speedboat it was only good fun! We passed some mangrove which was nice to see.

The sand of the beach almost look pink as it had little pink shredded seashells. The palm trees made is very tropical. While we enjoyed the beach we could get some snacks and of course more drinks.

Meanwhile we got to know the group better and we had some fun chats. Meanwhile we enjoyed the beautiful beach and palm trees.

Manu Juan village

Next we would be visit Manu Juan. This is the oldest and biggest village on the island with nearly 350 inhabitants. Raymond would guide us around telling something more about the village. We visited the turtle sanctuary. As it is common to eat turtles or turtle eggs in the Dominican Republic and the turtles and eggs should be protected Seavis tours created this sanctuary. When a turtle is laying eggs they dig them up get them to grow and when the turtles are 5 days the baby turtles will be released in the sea. Unfortunately, they didn't have any baby turtles at the moment so we couldn’t get to see them, but we got to know a little more about the turtles in this area.

Dolphin beach

Time for lunch! At Dolphin beach they prepared a nice lunch in a seated area with wooden picnicking tables. The lunch was fish, chicken, salad, rice and pasta. Some fruits as a desert. Or more rum.

We had a lot of time to relax after lunch and at this white powdery sand beach it was only pleasure and fun.

Snorkeling at the pier

We had two more brief stops. One was a 20 minute snorkeling at the pier of beach ... there was some coral and several fishes. Not spectacular, but fun to see.

To finish the day again we stopped at Piscina Natural. Some more rum and fun and we were ready to get some sleep at Playa Dominicus in our Whala Resort.
